SAVE WATER ..... SAVE TREES ...... SAVE EARTH

  1. Hello there. Frankly, what I’m going to say may sound commercial. A very real way of saving trees is to support the Reclaimed Wood Market when and where possible. For example, my friend Bob White has millions of board feet of Reclaimed Crane Mats. These are big timbers bolted together for heavy equipment to drive over. They are all hardwoods with several species of Oak.

Bob has been disassembling them, cleaning them up, and milling them for about 2 1/2 years now. When I asked Bob how many trees it took to make all these Crane Mats, he replied about 800,000 trees. By milling them, does Bob save that many trees? That can only be left to the imagination. But, also imagine–if we were a society whose first collective impulse was to save trees, these kinds of markets would be further developed. For example, I could be wrong, but, I don’t know of anyone else but Bob who mills these timbers. They are used for paneling for ceilings and walls, decorative timbers and fireplace mantels, stair treads, lamps, tables, and table and counter tops–and they are rustically phenomenal. I did not write this generically. I’m just a real guy doing what I can.
